Respiratory
Pigeon Health has developed a range of products to help support the pigeon immune system. Respiratory infections are mainly caused by Mycoplasma or Chlamydia with additional secondary E-coli infections. Obvious signs of respiratory problems include nasal discharge, blocked sinuses and sneezing (more common in young birds). Old birds with a stronger immune system may not show such outward signs but can have a major effect on racing performance and losses. Respiratory infections vary in their ability to cause disease and lofts generally have resident strains that the pigeons in that loft become immune too. This exposure helps assist young birds to strengthen their immunity. Stress caused by overcrowding, poor diet, loft environment, secondary illness, darkness system or the exposure of new strains from the introduction of pigeons from another loft can all cause eye colds.
